E&Minator Medical Coding App | Medical App Review

E and M inator medical coding app for the iPhone
E&Minator is a full featured E&M coding app for iOS developed by Healthcare Value, Inc to meet the daily coding needs of physicians.

E&Minator is probably the best E&M coding app for iOS on the market.

E&Minator includes Risk Based Coding, time based coding, and critical care.

These features make this app powerful and easy to use, allowing the determination of an appropriate coding level in less than a minute.  This high efficiency app will have you coding correctly in less time than it took to learn how to use Epocrates to check for drug interactions on your iPhone!

The reviewer used this app to code some 170 inpatient encounters, without any difficulty or identification of any shortcomings in the application.

E&Minator is an excellent tool for anyone learning to code for E&M services or who wants to be certain they are coding the most appropriate level for the services they are providing.  This app can effectively replace hours of physician coding training, and the knowledge can be applied immediately.

Alveolar Gas | Medical App News

Alveolar Gas Medical App for the iPad
A.P. (Pete) Shepherd, Ph.D., a retired Professor of Physiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas, has developed an iPad app for teaching the factors that affect the composition of "Alveolar Gas". A student or instructor can manipulate variables like tidal volume, dead space, and the oxygen consumption rate and see how they affect alveolar PO2 and PCO2. The app is suitable for use either as a classroom demonstration or self-instruction.

In addition to students studying respiratory physiology, health professionals who have found this app useful include residents in anesthesiology and pulmonary medicine, respiratory therapists, and nurse anesthetists. Although the app was released only recently, it is already being used in leading universities and hospitals around the world.

Clinical Pathology Question Bank | Medical App Review

Clinical Pathology Question Bank Medical App for iPhone
The Clinical Pathology Question bank is an iPhone and iPad app developed by Board Vitals, LLC.

This app is an attractive, easy to use board review app designed for physicians preparing for the clinical pathology boards.

Detailed performance feedback and feedback on why a particular option is the best answer is provided, making it a great way to prepare for the test.

As a hospitalist, I am not able to comment on how applicable the content is for the clinical pathology boards, but the answers are appropriate when compared to UpToDate.

The Clinical Pathology Question Bank costs $29.99.

A Lite version of the Clinical Pathology Question Bank is also available.

FluView by CDC | Medical App Review Just in time for Flu Season

Flu View Medical App for the iPhone
To help prepare for influenza season get the FluView app from the CDC.

FluView is simple and easy to use, and allows you to view the last 3 weekly influenza activity maps for the United States.

However, FluView is not as fun as Plague Inc.

FluView is a Must Have App for hospitalists
  • Helps planning vacation (be ON vacation when the flu hits, not on call for the ED....)
  • Reminds you when you should start checking patients with URI symptoms for influenza.
